About Tullow Mountaineering Club
We are a Carlow based club and most of our members are from Carlow and surrounding counties. Currently, we have over 70 members. We do most of our walking in the Carlow/ Wexford / Wicklow area. Walks are organised 3 times a week with our main walk being on a Sunday.
We usually depart every Sunday from Barrack Street in Carlow at 9.30 a.m., this may change at times and it is advised to contact the walk leader to confirm, please see “walk list” for details. Our Sunday walks can take us to the Wicklow Mountains, the Blackstairs, the Galtees and the Comeraghs, all stunning mountain ranges to explore.
Most walks are medium to hard but the first Sunday of every month is an easy walk and is a good opportunity for beginners to try it out. We would also encourage new members to start with the Wednesday evening walks. We meet at Askea Church Carpark for carpooling at 6:10pm. The walk leader on a Wednesday is an experienced club member.
Our walk leaders are rotated on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday walks. All our walk leaders are experienced hillwalkers with a great knowledge of the hills.
For the Friday evening hikes, please contact John Byrne 086 277 2633
The club enjoys several trips away throughout the year including trips to various locations in Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Some of our more adventurous members venture on overseas trips taking on the challenge of many European mountain ranges and other world places like Nepal and South America.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our website and if you are interested in joining Tullow Mountaineering Club, we would be delighted to hear from you.
We encourage people to come out a couple of times with us before deciding whether or not you wish to join, so feel free to come along on a walk any time that suits.
