Tullow Mountaineering Club – Information for possible new membersClub is affiliated to Mountaineering Ireland.
Sunday Walks: Group leaves Barrack St., Carlow at 9.30am sharp (if going on a longer journey group leaves earlier). On the first Sunday of each month walks are graded easy and last 4 to 5 hours on average. On each other Sunday walks are graded medium or medium to hard and last 5 to 8 hours on average. Club will support the walk leader if he or she refuses to allow a newcomer to walk because of inadequate clothing, footwear, food, drinks and extra layers. Newcomers are advised to contact the leader in advance and their details are displayed in the Carlow notes on the Carlow Nationalist and updates on our facebook page. Alternatively ring the Secretary (details below). Members are sent a list of walks. Wednesday Evening Walks: Leave Askea Church Car Park at 6.30pm sharp. Bring a torch as well as the appropriate clothing, footwear, food and drinks. These walks are about 3 hours long and may be a little longer in summer. Contact person is Paddy Looney . Newcomers are encouraged to participate on Wednesday walks before taking on the Sunday walks. Friday Evening Walks: Meet at Wexford Farmers Co-Op yard (beside Supervalu) in Bunclody at 7pm sharp. These walks are about 3 hours long and may be longer in summer. Bring a torch and the appropriate clothing, footwear etc. Contact person is John Byrne. Equipment required includes good walking boots, breathable clothing, waterproof clothing, food, drinks, first aid kit, torch, rucksack, map and compass. Newcomers can participate on two club walks before deciding to become a club member. Membership fee is €35 per year and this covers membership to Mountaineering Ireland and a subscription to the Mountain Log magazine. All members are expected to abide by club guidelines for leaders and walkers (a copy is available from Secretary). Tullow Mountaineering Club strongly supports ‘Leave No Trace’. MembershipThe yearly membership subscription is €35 and runs from January to December.
Your full year subscription automatically includes membership of Mountaineering Ireland (MI). When you receive your club membership card you are entitled to 10% discount in most of the outdoor shops around the country. Members will also receive the quarterly subscription Mountaineering Ireland’s magazine “Mountain Log”. |
