There are two club walk planned for the weekend.
On Easter Saturday we are meeting in WFC Yard in Bunclody at 8.30am for a 7 hour walk which goes from Bunclody around John's Hill, The Wind Farm, through Currabut Gap, Black Banks, Mount Leinster, Black Rock, Mullawnasmear to The Halfway House Shop and Pub. On Easter Sunday the leader is Edward (086-3649610) and the group leaves Barrack Street Carlow at 9.30am and goes to the walk start at Currabut Gap for 10am for a hike in the Blackstairs. -Wed. 13th March evening hike leaving Askea Church at 6.30pm contact Paddy at 087-2792064 - - - - - Fri. 15th March evening hike leaving WFC Bunclody at 7pm Contact John at 086-2772633 - - - Sun. 17th March Medium Day Walk in Wicklow, leaving Barrck St., Carlow at 9.30am. Leader Ray. 20 of the club members are also heading to Donegal for St. Patrick's Weekend. The Annual Blackstairs Challenge Walk organised by the Wayfarers Association is taking place on Saturday 18th May next. We would be delighted if you could bring this to the attention of your members. The Blackstairs Walk is 30.5km long with 1670M of climbing mountain along the Carlow-Wexford border. The walk begins at Killanure (Grid Ref. S 890 537) on the R746 (previously L32) road from Bunclody to Kiltealy, and ends at Byrnes Pub in Glynn (Grid Ref. S 745 395).The walk takes an average of 9 hours to complete. A certificate will be awarded to all those who complete or participate in the walk. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST:- Be over 16 years of age. Participants between the ages of 12 and 16 will only be considered if their entry form has be co-signed by an adult and if they are accompanied at all times while on the walk by an adult who is an experienced hill-walker. Entrants under 12 are not allowed. Be in fit physical condition. Have reasonable hill walking experience. Have wind and waterproof clothing, and wear suitable hiking boots. Have a compass and Ordnance Survey Discovery Series Map No. 68 – the walk is self-led Start the walk between 7.30 and 8.30 A.M. Reach the Checkpoint at Scullogue Gap not later than 1.00 P.M. Finish the walk not later than 6.30 P.M. Carry their Control cards during the walk. Pay the €10 entry fee. (Bus to start of walk costs €5) Two buses will leave at 6.45 for the start of the walk. One will leave from St. Mullins (the campsite), the other from Glynn. The bus trip and entry fee will cost €15.00, payable on the bus. Participants are advised not to drive to the start as there is NO official transport from the finish back to the start. The bus should be used to the start. A new feature this year is the option to pre-register. This facility is available up to Saturday 11th May, one week before the walk. Pre-registration costs €12, including Entry Fee and bus fee.
