Sunday 1st July - Easy Hike in the Wicklow Mountains, Walkers are meeting up at Barrack Street, Carlow for car pooling 09.30, Contact Barry 086-.1098244. Great evening hike, some of our 20 plus people did the scramble up gully at South Prison, the majority did the route up from Fentons Pub and we all met at the summit Percy's Table. It was very cold on top but the sun came out for us and it was like Paddy was smiling down at us.
We started a loop walk from the Liam Lynch monument, great walk led by Ann Murphy with a tough climb up summit of Knockmeal Down and just over 20k when we finished.
DAY 2 Mon 21st May North Ridge of Tryfan and the Glyder Fach & Y Gribin Length: 9.5 km Ascent: 1090 m Start: Pen Y Benglog car park beside lake Llyn Ogwen on the A5 From the carpark we crossed the foot style and started our assent on Tryfan over initially a large smooth stone path which eventually led to some easy scrambles getting progressively harder leading to a large rock sticking out of the north ridge known as "The Cannon", which some climbed on for photos. From there we proceeded upward with more difficult scrambling reaching the summit which has two large upright standing rocks known as "Adam & Eve". None of us on this occasion made the jump from top of one stone to the other. After having lunch and some photo opportunities we descended southwards down steep rocky path with some down scrambling to col at Bwlch Tryfan. At this point we split into two groups before ascending Glyder Fach, with three of us taking the more difficult route of Bristly Ridge and the rest taking the stoney scree path across the style on other side of the wall. At the summit we proceeded to the "Cantilever Stone" for more photos. The terrain along the way was full of large rocky outcrops with an unearthly look about them. From here we made our way back down descending Y Gribin and back to our cars DAY 3 Tue 21st May Snowdon Horseshoe via Crib Goch Length: 11 km Ascent: 1100 m Start: Pen Y Pass car park We took the Pig Track to the saddle at Bwlch Y Mock, then taking the Crib Goch path on the right and proceeded up some easy scrambling at first which got quite difficult and we reached the knife edge ridge. After crossing the ridge with great care and appreciating the great views to our left and right we scrambled down to Bwlch Coch. After a short break we took on the Pinnacles with great care and guidance from Ann, Padraig & TJ and down to the coll where we had lunch. Our next assent was Crib Ddysgl which was an easier scramble and climed Garnedd Ugain and after a breather we descended down to Bwlch Glass joining the main Llanberis track & train track up to the Summit of Snowdon. We treated ourselves to a well deserved treat of cold drinks and ice cream in the cafe and spent time to take in the views and take photos. After feeling suitably rested and refreshed we began our descent, heading to south ridge and after meeting the standing stone took a steep stoney scree path down to Bwlch Y Saethau. We proceeded on the path until we reached Cribau ridge which we descended down to the Miners track between lake Glaslyn and Llydaw, after rest we continued the last few kilometers out the Miners track back to our cars at Pen Y Pass. Many thanks again to our walk leaders Ann, Padraig & TJ, Pat & Ann for cooking and everyone for the great company a very enjoyable and memorable trip.
