Friday nights hike was lead by John from Scullogue Gap, up Shannon's Lane, Stoolyen to Mount Leinster. The views were great all evening. Thansk to John and thanks to all for the photos. Sundays hike took the walkers to Blackstairs Mountain where they started from Scullogue Gap across to Cooliagh Gap and back. Thanks to Tony for leading Sundays hike in Wicklow. The group started at Baravore, before ascending Fraughan Rock to Lugnaquilla. They descended via Arts Lough. Height gain was approx 800metres. Congratulations and well done to the 10 club members who successfully completed the Tom Crean Endurance Walk in Co. Kerry this weekend, with special congratulations to the 5 members taking part for the first time. We were greeted by warm sunshine from the start, although the ground remained wet underfoot in parts following heavy rain earlier in the week. The 30km route began with the ascent of Mount Brandon, taking in Brandon Peak and Ballysitteragh before descending to the Conor Pass, where we rested before tackling the remaining 14km across the mountains to Annascaul. After a day of sun, laughs and amazing views, we received their medals on the lawn of the South Pole Inn, before a well deserved BBQ in Hanafin's Pub. Sunday's hike, led by John, started from Fenton's Pub in the Glen of Imaal and followed a 20km route taking in Camenabologue and Lugnaquilla, with a total ascent of approximately 900 metres. Sunday's hike was an 18km trek starting in Aughavanagh and ascending through the Ow Valley to Lugnaquilla, with ascent of 780metres. Thanks to Denis for leading the hike and to Bernie and Padraig for the photos.Friday night's hike was also on Lugnaquilla, heading into South Prison and ascending the grassy scramble on the left just beyond the Big Trough Gully. On Sunday, Nuala led the group on a hike in the Comeraghs. Starting from the Nire Valley car park, the members ascended through low cloud to Com Dú Aille. From there, they headed north along the ridge, passing over Knockanaffrin, Knocksheegowna, and Béal Muire. The route then descended south-east, using Curraheen Forest as a handrail on the way to Loch Moyra. As the group made their way down, the weather improved with sunshine and blue skies. After the loch, they set into the steep climb back up to Knockanaffrin before returning to the Nire Valley. Thanks to Nuala for leading and to Michael and Nuala for the photos. The Friday Night hikers enjoyed a wonderful hike from Barravore to Lugnaquilla. Their route led them via Art's Lough before reaching the summit of Lugnaquilla. Last Sunday, the walkers headed to the Comeragh Mountains in Co. Waterford. Led by Padraig, the group enjoyed glorious weather where they explored Tooreen, Coomfia, Coomtay, Seefin and Milk Hill on a circuit of approximately 16km, with around 700 metres of elevation gain. Thanks to Padraig for leading and to all who took photos. Friday night’s hike on Blackstairs Mountain began in foggy conditions, with a shower of rain at the summit. As we made our way down towards Caher’s Den, the fog cleared to reveal a stunning sunset, followed by a cloud inversion. Thanks to John C for leading another lovely lovely hike.

The weather conditions were mixed throughout the earlier part of the day, with fog, rain and hail especially on Blackstairs Mountain, but thankfully the sun eventually appeared and it was a beautiful afternoon to finish the walk. A big thank you to the Wayfarers Mountaineering Club for organising such a great event, and to all volunteers who helped make the day a success. Thank you also to Celina Byrne. Sunday’s hike was led by Tony, starting from Currabut Gap, through the woods at Killbrannish, and on to Mount Leinster by the Clody river. The group then made their way back down via the Black Banks.
